Don’t Let Plumbing Problems Wreck Your Super Bowl Party

February 5, 2016 by Boris Mechanical

This Sunday, Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos face off against Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. It’s looking like it’ll be a great game. There’s the drama of knowing that this could very well be Manning’s last game and the excitement of watching Newton come into his own. And of course, for many New Yorkers, the Super Bowl presents a chance to gather with your favorite people and have a party with lots of great food.

Here are some tips to keep plumbing mishaps from ruining your Superbowl Sunday. We’re going to start with the garbage disposal. There’s something about parties that makes people forget that a kitchen sink garbage disposal has limitations. These units were never designed to dispose of glass bottles, bottle caps, can pull tabs and other similar items. If your friends are putting this type of thing into your garbage disposal, you need better friends. Also, plan on having your NYC plumber stop over to fix the resulting disaster!

Bear in mind that some food items, particularly starchy items like pasta and potatoes, can bog down your disposal and make it work much harder than it needs to. If you have many people having this kind of food, encourage them to scrape their plates into a trash bin rather than the disposal.

People are going to need to use the bathroom. The typical Super Bowl party menu tends to be heavy on the booze, spicy foods and rich meaty fare. This means people are going to use the bathroom a lot. Ideally, your guests will give your toilet a few minutes between flushes; this allows the tank to refill properly and keep things moving as they should be. Any problems on this front, call your NYC plumber for help right away: a prompt response will keep the situation from going from bad to worse.
