NYC Sprinkler System Installations & Upgrades

November 4, 2016 by Boris Mechanical

“Did you know that the type of business you operate impacts the type of sprinkler system you need to have?” Charles asked. “I didn’t, until I became involved in this Manhattan development project. I’d assumed it was all commercial space, but because we have restaurant kitchens going in here, and a language instruction center, I’ve got to consider what sprinklers are needed for food service and what fire sprinklers are needed for classrooms?”

Commercial sprinkler systems are important because they provide a fast response in a fire, far faster than even the most responsive fire department could possibly provide. By deploying a high volume of water early in a fire event, a sprinkler system can reduce the intensity and duration of the blaze. Obviously, as a property owner, you want a sprinkler system that provides the best possible protection. As NYC plumbers, we work closely with builders and developers to design, coordinate and install the right sprinkler system for that particular building’s location, type, and relevant regulations.

New construction and commercial build outs provide the opportunity to create a sprinkler system; in other instances, it may be the most cost-effective option for the property owner to make the best use of the sprinkler system that’s currently in place. It is possible to upgrade elements of a sprinkler system, and this is often how sprinkler violations are removed.

As colder weather draws near, it’s important to remember that dry pipe valves need to be reset to prevent the pipes from freezing. This is a quick, simple service call: let our team take care of this now and avoid an expensive emergency call due to burst pipes later! Last year we had several customers surprised by sudden cold snaps. It is November now and it’s not unusually to see freezing temperatures at this time of year.
