I Have No Hot Water – What Do I Do?

March 23, 2022 by Boris Mechanical

“I kind of knew there was something wrong with my water heater,” Frank said. “Each day, the water seemed to be getting less and less hot. And this morning when I was going to get ready for work, there was zero hot water. Ice cold. Now what do I do?”

As plumbers near Elmhurst, one of the main reasons people call us is they have no hot water. If you’re in this situation and you need to know what do, here are some simple tips:

Check to Make Sure the Water Heater is Connected to Power

Before you call your Elmhurst plumber, take a moment to inspect your water heater. This will help you see what the situation is and give you a better idea of what kind of help you need. It’s a good idea to see if your water heater is still connected to the power. If the unit’s become unplugged for any reason, this could be the reason you have no hot water.

Consider the general condition of your water heater. This is a situation where you want everything to be dry – there should be no puddles under the water heater tank, and it should not be leaking. If you see puddles or leaks, you’re going to be talking to your Elmhurst plumber about water heater replacement.

The typical useful life of a water heater is 15-20 years, depending on how often they’re used and the conditions they’re stored in. If your water heater is older than that, it might be time for replacement.

There are other water heater problems that are best detected by a licensed plumber. The water heater’s element might be burned out or there may be problems with the controls. Your Elmhurst plumber will let you know what the situation is and what your repair options are.
