Smaller Tubs Top 2021 NYC Bathroom Design Trend

January 10, 2021 by Boris Mechanical

If you’re thinking about renovating your bathroom in 2021, you’re not alone. The pandemic has led lots of homeowners to upgrade and improve the bathroom, either to create a spa-like restful retreat within the home or to help ensure everyone in the family is doing all the necessary handwashing properly.

As plumbers in New York City, we assist homeowners achieve their dream bathrooms with professional plumbing services. In terms of design trends, smaller tubs are definitely having their hey dey. Sometimes called soaking tubs, these free-standing, flat bottomed tubs take up less space than more traditional profile tubs while delivering a comfortable, relaxing bathing experience.

From a design perspective, soaking tubs are very versatile. Most often chosen in white, their simple shape complements any aesthetic, from modern/contemporary to casual and family friendly. You can have your New York City plumber install the new soaking tub for you as part of your bathroom remodel.

If you’re not convinced of the charms of a soaking tub, the other trendy design alternative that makes sense for NYC living is the bigger shower. This is especially true if you’re looking to re-create a true spa experience within your home. There are an amazing array of luxurious, programmable shower units now available at fairly reasonable prices. If you want to upgrade the bathroom without having to significantly change the plumbing, having a bigger shower unit installed as part of your remodel makes sense.

But what about the traditional tub and shower configuration? This layout is particularly popular in some of the family homes you find in Brooklyn and the Bronx. Here too, the trend is for the smaller, deeper bathtub. In addition to taking up less space, smaller tubs fill faster and use less water.

During the renovations, it’s a smart time to have your New York City plumber ensure your water heater is working properly. That way you can be sure your first shower in your new bathroom is the perfect temperature!
