Is Everything Great About Your New NYC Home – Except The Plumbing?

April 9, 2018 by Boris Mechanical

Finding a home in NYC is hard. We’re one of the most expensive real estate markets in the world. Competition for the best addresses is fierce. When you finally find a place, the impulse is to act fast – which means that we can wind up with homes that have a few little flaws. As a NYC plumber, I can assure you that you’re not the first new homeowner to discover the toilet never stops running, or the water bill’s much higher than it should be, or that the entire bathroom needs an upgrade. Kitchen plumbing is particular prone to problems – discovering issues like slow draining kitchen sinks and instant hot water faucets that are neither instant nor hot are very common.

To make the most of your budget, here’s a good best practice you can use to address the plumbing issues in your home. Before you call your NYC plumber, you want to be clear about the state of the plumbing in your home and what work needs to be done. The best way to do this is to go through your home and, working room by room, assess the performance of your plumbing. Do the sinks work? Do you get hot water in the expected quantity and temperature? How about the toilet? Does it flush quickly, quietly, and completely? Make note of what’s dripping, leaking, or otherwise causing you distress.

If you have any plumbing issues that occur in multiple locations, such as a lack of hot water, heating systems that aren’t working properly, or issues with your gas lines, make sure to make note of those too. Then prioritize these issues in order of their importance to you, putting any concerns that impact your family’s safety, health and comfort at the top of the list.

When you call your NYC plumber, you’ll be able to tell them what your most pressing concerns are, as well as informing them of any related issues that may impact what needs to be done to improve your new home’s plumbing. This will help you save time and money.
