Is It Bad If My Pipes Make Noises?

September 18, 2021 by Boris Mechanical

“Summer is almost over. I am so nervous,” Alaine said. What has the Brooklyn homeowner so nervous? It’s the strange noises coming from her home heating system that has her freaked out.

“You remember how warm it was this spring?” she asked. “I was ridiculously happy to turn the heat off. Every day the pipes were banging, clanging, making noise. It sounds like the whole thing is just going to blow up!” Now that it’s almost time to start running the heat again, Alaine is nervous. “Is it bad if my pipes make noises? Should I be concerned?”

A Noisy Boiler Needs Attention

Boilers are like toddlers. Sometimes they make noise just because they’re noisy – it’s not unusual for a boiler to start with a bit of a whoosh and a rattle, especially if it’s been in place for a while – and sometimes they make noise because they’re about to blow up.

How do you tell which is which? The best way – and the fastest route for some serious peace of mind – is to schedule a service call with your Brooklyn plumber. This is something that you should be doing on a somewhat regular basis anyway – most boilers should be serviced annually, to keep everything safe and energy efficient – and it’s a great opportunity to learn why your boiler is making the noise that it is.

It is possible that this investigation will reveal there’s something wrong with the boiler. One common noise-causing issue is that the water pressure in the boiler isn’t high enough . It’s also possible that the noise is caused by lime-scale buildup within the tank. A third common cause is that the thermostat is set too high. All of these issues can be remedied by your Brooklyn plumber. Of course you will be provided with an estimate and timeline for repairs to be approved before any work is done.

You don’t have to live with noisy pipes, and you shouldn’t. Help is available.
