Choosing The Right Faucet for Your NYC Kitchen

November 19, 2017 by Boris Mechanical

Some people like to browse in bookstores. Other people window shop fashion boutiques, searching for the perfect accessories. We’re NYC plumbers, so we do our browsing in plumbing showrooms, where the latest, greatest kitchen faucets and other hardware is on display. We’re definitely not alone: kitchen upgrades top the list of home remodels Gothamites are planning for 2018. Some kitchen remodels require major plumbing work, while others are more restrained: upgrading the kitchen faucet is one affordable way to renew the look of your home fairly quickly.

Tips for Choosing the Right Faucet for Your NYC Kitchen

Looks aren’t everything.
New Yorkers are image conscious, and that extends to their home. Aesthetics are important, but you want to make sure your new kitchen faucet provides the functionality your family needs. Also, it’s good to know that the faucet you’re choosing is high quality. There’s no correlation between price and quality: ask your NYC plumber to recommend kitchen faucet brands they know stand the test of time.

Measure Before You Buy Some kitchen faucet spouts are quite high. It’s important to know that the faucet you’re considering will fit in the space you actually have – unless you’re planning on having any interfering item, such an an over-sink cabinet, moved. There is no such thing as a ‘standard sized’ or ‘regular’ faucet: while there are sizes and styles that are very common, every home is different. Before you call your NYC plumber to install your new kitchen faucet, you want to be sure it fits.

Understand Different Faucet Finishes Have Different Expected Useful Lives Kitchen sink faucets are available in a variety of finishes. This means you can choose the look you like best. Be aware that not all finishes last the same amount of time. Colorful enamel and bronze finishes are most vulnerable, damage and chips; stainless steel and chrome last longest.
