NYC Kitchen Plumbing Trends: Intense Color & Matte Brass

June 10, 2016 by Boris Mechanical

If you’re renovating your NYC kitchen, choosing the right plumbing fixtures is important. Faucets get a lot of use during food prep and clean up as well as whenever you need a glass of water. The design must be functional and easy to use. Faucets were once fairly simple, but as any of the plumbers in New York City can tell you, today’s faucets incorporate impressive features and technology designed to help you save water and boost your enjoyment of your kitchen.

Kitchen faucet features you may want to consider include motion-activation, which turns the water on and off with a wave of the hand; pull down sprayers – great for washing vegetables!; and special anti-microbial finishes that keep bacteria from growing. You’ll also want to talk to your NYC plumber about universal design kitchen faucets: these smart faucets are designed to be easy to use by people of all ages, and are a great investment if you’re planning to spend your senior years in your current home.

The look of your kitchen plumbing fixtures is also important. When people talk about a kitchen looking dated, there are three items that really stand out: fixtures, cabinetry hardware, and appliances. If your kitchen has shiny brass knobs with porcelain centers, for example, a knowing buyer will understand it was built in the 1980’s. Today’s plumbing fixture finishes of choice include matte brass and intense colors. The top three colors in terms of popularity are iron cobalt, which is a deep, rich blue; suede , a rich chocolate brown; and classic black.

Choosing a trendy look can help your kitchen look contemporary, but be aware that trends do pass. If you love the look of a cobalt blue faucet, go for it. But if you’re looking for a more timeless aesthetic choose a classic style and finish that has proven it can stand the test of time.
