Plumbing Problems in New Construction?

October 23, 2015 by Boris Mechanical

Pace University is having problems with the plumbing in its newly constructed Alumni Hall. Leaky showers and faucets have distressed students living in the dorm and have caused others to express concern about the long-term viability of the building.

When you’re in a newly-built facility, it’s not unreasonable to expect everything to function flawlessly.  However, many new construction projects, such as Pace University, use prefabricated plumbing systems that don’t always do everything perfectly. Sometimes errors are made in the factory; sometimes prefabricated plumbing systems are damaged while being transported to the job site or during installation. The result can be leaky faucets, leaky drains, and worse.  Pipes that are leaking within building walls can lead to serious structural damage.

If you’re a property manager or building owner who’s facing a situation similar to what Pace University is going through, here’s what you need to know. Work with your NYC plumber to address leaks as they occur; a prompt, professional response will minimize the amount of time you need to spend worrying about this problem.

Additionally, it’s a good idea to be as proactive as possible. If you know the shower heads in one part of the building have been problematic, have your NYC plumber check the shower heads in other units. It may be a matter of simple preventative adjustments that can stop any potential leaks, property damage and resident complaints from ever happening at all.

Make sure to have your NYC plumber document all repair work done. You’ll need that information when addressing the situation with the original manufacturer or construction professionals you worked with!
