A great shower is one of life’s best simple pressures. The stress, tension, and aches of the day just melt away, going down the drain with the soap bubbles. But sometimes plumbing problems make it impossible to truly enjoy your shower.
As a NY plumber, we hear a lot of water pressure complaints. Either there’s no water pressure in the shower, or the water pressure comes and goes – in this instance, it’s almost inevitable that the water pressure drops off immediately after you’ve lathered up your hair with shampoo and really need to rinse.
Water temperature is another big concern. A shower that’s suddenly much too hot can actually be dangerous, particularly for children, elderly people, and anyone who has mobility challenges. Suddenly cold showers are no fun either. Many of today’s more upscale shower units feature precision temperature control settings. These don’t always operate the way they should, which leads to a disappointing shower experience.
The number of showerhead styles available to today’s NYC homeowner is amazing. The days when a wall-mounted showerhead was the only option are long behind us. Switching from one showerhead style to another can be a simple process – going from a wall-mount to a handheld can be a DIY job, if you enjoy that sort of thing – but for some changes, such as switching to an overhead rain or waterfall style showerhead, you’ll want to loop your NY plumber into the process.
Finally, drainage. You want all the water from your shower to drain away quickly, without pooling to an unacceptable depth. This is particularly true if you’ve chosen a barrier-free shower: when your shower unit has no walls, a clogged shower drain can be extremely problematic.
