The Do’s and Don’ts of Choosing Plumbing Fixtures for Your NYC Kitchen

July 20, 2018 by Boris Mechanical

Are you remodeling your kitchen? Choosing new plumbing fixtures – think kitchen sinks & faucets – can be one of the most fun parts of the process. While you’re shopping for fixtures, keep these do’s and don’ts in mind:

Do: Set a Budget

Some interior designers refer to plumbing fixtures as the jewelry in the room, and as we all know, jewelry’s not cheap. Create a budget for your kitchen remodel and decide ahead of time how much you’re willing to spend on your kitchen sink and faucet. In our experience, homeowners who set and stick to a budget tend to be happier with their remodels.

Don’t: Forget to Shop Online

While visiting plumbing showrooms is our favorite thing to do – what do you expect, we’re licensed NYC plumbers!- we understand that’s not true for everyone. This is where online shopping can be your friend. Discover styles and brands, browse inspiration sites like Pinterest and Instagram, and when you’ve found the look you love, shop for the best deals.

Do: Plan for the Future

If your current place is your forever – or at least long term – home, choose plumbing fixtures with an eye toward longevity. Invest in the best quality fixtures you can afford. Remember that while the faucet will stay the same, you yourself might not. Universal design faucets are created to serve people at every life stage, including people who have difficulty grabbing and turning knobs such as the elderly or people with some chronic health conditions.

Don’t: Be Afraid of High Tech Plumbing

We live in a wired world, where smart appliances are increasingly becoming the norm. For example, a smart refrigerator can keep track of its contents and update the shopping list app on your phone as needed. Because these high tech plumbing fixtures are relatively new technology you want to work with experienced licensed plumbers in NYC to have them installed.
